Your patio is an extra room in your home and it is important that you design it for maximum comfort. Do you love the sun's warmth but not its UV rays? Do you want to be able to enjoy your outdoors regardless of the sky's moods? Have a peaceful rest under a patio awning. And to guarantee the perfect rest (and to take the strain off your arms!), choose an electric patio awnings. You will need to get a professional to come and install your awning, but here are a few useful tips to help you with your project...

Step 1: check your existing installation
Of course, you want to protect yourself from the sun and the rain, but you can also protect yourself against any unpleasant surprises by preparing the installation of your outdoor patio awning motor.

Here are a few points that your installer will take into account in order to provide you with the best automated system. Are the walls of your home in good enough condition to attach a motorised awning securely? If you already have a patio awning, is its framework strong enough and does it operate smoothly?
If you don't have an awning yet, this is the time to think about your comfort by determining the surface area to be shaded so that you can enjoy your awnings at the times when you need it most. Don't forget that the Earth turns and the sun moves (well, not really!)... This will enable the professional to determine the width and its ideal forward movement. The installer will also check that your awning will be placed high enough so that it doesn't prevent your shutters from opening. Every detail counts so that your electric awnings is installed correctly on your terrace.

Step 2: identify your type of motorised patio awnings
What is your type of awnings?
With regular awnings, the articulated arms and the fabric remain in the open air once your awning is raised (no protection).
For awnings with box (or cassette), the arms and the external fabric are protected from UV rays and humidity by a sealed box which protects them for the full lifetime of your awning. For these awnings with or without cassette, you can use the Sunea io motor.
Finally, if you have or want to install awnings with roll-up valance to protect you against the sun and any buildings opposite, we recommend that you use the Sunea Screen 40 io motor.

We have a motor for each type of patio awning, according to its size, weight, projection and the technology required…Please contact our experts.

Step 3: choose the technology for your motor for your outdoor patio awning
Somfy proposes electric awnings motors equipped with RTS radio, io-homecontrol or wired technologies. Take account of the equipment you already have when you make your choice. For example, if you want to use the same control to operate your roller shutters, swing shutters, external screens or your lighting, then they must be equipped with the same technology. What can you do if you have different technologies for each product? Don't panic, you can still activate your equipment with our TaHoma home automation box.

Also think about any future equipment plans you may have. If you are planning to connect a large number of devices to each other, we recommend io-homecontrol technology which is compatible with many products of different brands and which enables you to see how your installations are operating.

Step 4: perfect your patio lifestyle
Do you want to make the most of your patio? You can add lights to your outdoor awnings to create a host of atmospheres to match your mood. Don't forget to find out about the heating systems which can be set up for optimum comfort in the evenings and on different occasions all year round.

Do you want to centralise the control of your awnings with this equipment? Choose a Nina multi-function remote control to manage everything from a single point and programme your lighting continuously with the repetitive "light loop" function.

Our motors are also compatible with our TaHoma and Connexoon home automation boxes. Thanks to the dedicated TaHoma app, you can create customised atmospheres with specific lighting, music and heating scenarios. Activate these commands with one word thanks to the compatibility between TaHoma and voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant. It'll now be very hard for you to leave your terrace... And if you're not at home when a storm picks up, use your smartphone to close everything in one move and get confirmation that your awning is closed and the lights are off.
